What is hanging weight?

Hanging weight is the carcass weight after slaughter and before cutting into retail cuts. Finished or boxed weight is what you take home after trimming and bone loss.

Why do normalized prices sometimes say estimate?

When a ranch posts only hanging weight, we apply a standard yield to compare shares on a finished-pound basis. The label estimate means the yield was assumed, not read from the seller page.

Hanging weight vs finished weight

Ranches near Austin may quote price per hanging pound, per finished pound, or as a flat share fee. Hanging weight is the carcass before cutting; finished weight is what you store at home after trimming.

When only hanging weight is posted, we apply a standard yield to show an estimated dollars per finished pound for sorting. Those rows are labeled estimate in the comparison table. Verbatim posted text is always shown in the Posted price column with the check date.
